Purpose of Position:
The Structural Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and ensuring the structural integrity of buildings and other infrastructure projects within the organisation. They play a pivotal role in providing technical expertise to ensure that structures meet safety, performance, and regulatory requirements while optimizing design efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/KEY JOB ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include but not limited to the following:
- Develop structural designs for various building components, including beams, columns,
- foundations, and lateral systems, using relevant design codes and standards.
- Perform structural analysis using computer-aided design (CAD) software and finite element
analysis (FEA) tools to evaluate the behavior and performance of structural elements under
different loading conditions. - Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, regulations, and industry standards in all
structural designs and calculations. - Provide technical support during the construction phase, including reviewing shop drawings,
responding to requests for information (RFIs), and conducting site inspections to verify
compliance with design specifications. - Collaborate with architects, other engineers, and project stakeholders to develop integrated
design solutions that meet project requirements and objectives. - Identify opportunities for value engineering to optimize structural designs and minimize
construction costs while maintaining performance and safety standards. - Conduct peer reviews of structural designs and calculations to ensure accuracy, completeness,
and adherence to best practices and standards. - Stay updated on industry trends, advancements in structural engineering technology, and
changes in building codes and regulations to enhance knowledge and skills.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- Measure the accuracy of structural designs and calculations based on feedback from
- construction teams and post-construction assessments.
- Assess the ability to deliver structural designs within established timelines and budget
constraints. - Ensure that all structural designs and calculations comply with relevant building codes and
regulations without requiring significant revisions. - Solicit feedback from clients and project stakeholders regarding the quality and performance
of structural engineering services provided. - Evaluate the introduction of innovative design solutions or value engineering initiatives to
improve project outcomes and reduce costs. - Assess the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams to achieve
project objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or structural engineering from an accredited institution; master’s degree is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in civil or structural engineering.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in structural engineering, with a focus on building design and analysis.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software such as ETABS, SAP2000, or STAAD.Pro.
- Experience with building information modeling (BIM) software (e.g., Revit) is preferred.
- Strong understanding of building codes, regulations, and industry standards related to structural engineering.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality structural designs for diverse projects, including
commercial, residential, and institutional buildings. - Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and
manage workload effectively. - Demonstrated commitment to upholding ethical standards and professionalism in all aspects of
work. - Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and collaborative environment, adapting to changing
project requirements and priorities.
